Mona finds mysteries to solve wherever she goes. A story for anyone who keeps their superhero cape to hand just in case.
Story
Mona (the Vampire) is a young girl with a vivid imagination who sees supernatural mysteries everywhere she goes. With her friends Lily (Princess Giant), Charley (Zapman) and her cat Fang she confronts the enemy to save her town, although there always turns out to be a rational explanation for what they see.
Why we chose it
Mona has a vivid imagination and the stories encourage imaginative play – a story for all those children who wear their superhero capes at all time, just in case.
Where it came from
The television series is based on a series of books, also created by Sonia Holleyman in the 1990s and published by Orchard Books. Originally Mona had multiple obsessions including vampires and space invaders but from the 4th book onwards Hiawyn Oram joined Holleyman and they decided to focus solely on Mona’s vampire personality which later became the focus of the animated series.
Where it went next
Mona the Vampire ran for 4 series on CBBC and there are a total of 65 episodes. Mona was aired across the world and was particularly popular in Canada.
