Deep beneath the earth lies a hidden vault of Dragon lore; a place where Dragons from across place and time lie guarding a wealth of stories. But do you have what it takes to tame these dragons and learn their extraordinary tales?
Includes plenty of tips and tricks on dragon etiquette and dragon training skills.

How To Train Your Dragon with Cressida Cowell

Meet multi-million-selling author-illustrator and former Children’s Laureate, Cressida Cowell, author of the 'How to Train Your Dragon' series of books. Cressida will be talking about a How to Train Your Dragon short story collection with a brand-new short story. Learn about her inspiration, and get writing and drawing tips. Cressida is passionate about inspiring every single child to love reading and creating, and this event is unmissable! Plus bring your own dragon drawing to show Cressida in the signing queue. Followed by book signing.

Dragon Brains
What would a dragon's brain look like? Find out more in this family activity with Professor Rogier Mars (University of Oxford). Start with a dragon story and then work with Professor Mars to explore how different animals' brains work and how they have adapted in special ways. You'll get the chance to design your own 3D dragon brain, combining science and imagination in a craft activity that families can enjoy together.

Story Explorers Skills Courses: Mystery & Monsters
Three days of workshops for young people aged 8-12 on spies, mysteries and adventure!
Our Story Explorer courses offer young people the opportunity to explore their creativity, with guest appearances from professional story-makers including authors, artists, musicians and drama practitioners. Sessions are led by our expert Story Leaders and involve plenty of games and fun along the way. It's a great way to make new friends, try new activities and immerse yourself in the world of stories. Book individual days or all three.
Tues 29 Oct: Choose Your Own Adventure with Kyandreia Jones
Transform into a mystery-busting detective with author Kyandreia Jones in a day of espionage and interactive storytelling. Kyandreia will use her first Choose Your Own Adventure (CYOA) book, Spies: James Armistead Lafayette to guide aspiring agents through narrative world-building and choice-making to create your very own adventure. Kyandreia is the author of three CYOA novels: CYOA Spies: James Armistead Lafayette; CYOA Spies: Mary Bowser; and Ghost on the Mountain, her first CYOA for younger readers.
Wed 30 Oct: Monster Mayhem with Rowena Fletcher
Are your brave enough for a monstrous discovery? Journey into stories about myths and monsters and then create some monster mayhem with fun games and role play. In a special workshop with scientist Rowena Fletcher you'll encounter a mystery in the museum and will have to use yor CSI skills to solve the puzzle!
Thu 31 Oct: Dungeons & Dragons with Rolldark
Enter the cave of dragonlore in our exhibition Here Be Dragons and explore dragon stories from around the world. Led by experts in role play, Rolldark, you will go on a quest in an immersive a game of Dungeons and Dragons - choose your character and embark on an imaginary adventure exploring castles, dungeons, treasure and dragons!

A Monstrous Discovery
Enjoy an escape-room style family activity to solve a monstrous mystery! Deep in the underground tunnels beneath The Story Museum, a monstrous discovery takes place. Now we need your CSI skills to identify a series of strange objects and put the mystery together. Weave your way round an escape-room-style investigation, performing tasks like bone analysis and footprint measurements. Where will they lead? In partnership with IF Oxford Festival of Science and Ideas.

Dungeons & Dragons
Guided by expert Dungeon Masters Roll Dark, this immersive workshop will introduce you to Dungeons and Dragons, the interactive storytelling game driven by imagination and role play. Choose your character and embark on an imaginary adventure exploring castles, dungeons, treasure and dragons! Parents are encouraged to join to learn the rules of this brilliant game.

Get ready for a refreshing and fantastical family show that will defy your expectations and warm your heart! Join our hero Toral on the adventure of a lifetime as she swims uncrossable rivers, braves impassable forests and scales unclimbable mountains, all to fight a great and terrible dragon.
